DragonForce are a British power metal band formed in London in 1999. The group is known for its fast paced songs, twin guitar solos, and the incorporation of electronic sound effects into their music. I was first introduced to the band from Guitar Heroes III, and I loved the track “Through The Fire And The Flames” it’s hard as shit to play but its a good song. I also seen them live at The Rockstar Mayhem tour in august I wasn’t too impressed by their live show, but I didn’t pay that much attention either.
So I picked up their latest disc Ultra Beatdown so that I could give the band a fair shot. Musically the band is phenomenal, they are very technical and fast and they have a lot going on in the background. I’ve always liked speed metal and I don’t mind progressive and power metal at all, Dragonforce blends it all together very well. My problem with the band has nothing to do with the music at all. Even the voice is tolerable, it’s the super happy lyrics and positive attitude that brought the cd down.
Like I said I like speed metal, but I like it evil not happy. It’s not a total wash though, there are a few good tracks on the album but they are all too long. Normally I don’t mind long songs but I’m not feeling the singer, his voice is tolerable but I’d rather the disc been instrumental. But to be fair I guess it doesn’t get much better if you like this style of music, the guitars are sick and the drums are like machine guns at times. If they would of thrown in a little death vocals or high notes I would of been all over this cd.
