Long after the sun has set in Porterville the still of the night is shattered by blasts of a chainsaw… and screams of flesh-ripping punishment. At the age of ten Sally Diamon witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. Alone in the world she raised her little brother as best she could haunted by nightmarish memories of the killings and savoring an ever-growing taste for revenge. She s now a quiet young woman timid and harmless most locals would say. But they don t know a thing about Sally who is obsessed with gruesome images of violence torture and retribution. Sally might live the life of a small town librarian by day yet she is something completely different by night. And the night is coming and the hunt will begin again with Chainsaw Sally acting as judge jury and bloody executioner of those who are evil in her eyes.

Your opinion of this movie is going to depend on what you are looking for. For passive or serious horror fan, a viewing “Chainsaw Sally” will be pointless. For the B-movie fan, this might be your dream come true. I, for one, don’t see what the hype is all about. The gore and nudity are lacking, the story isn’t very good, and the film seems to be missing the type of charm the “so bad it’s good crowd” looks for. The film has a cult following of sorts, but it seems to me that the following it has exists only because there is a void in the “icon” spot in the b-movie world.

It does some things well. It establishes Chainsaw Sally as a marketable icon for one, and does it well, giving her an unmistakable and certainly unique look and requisite bloodlust that should keep her busy for at least a few movies. There were some funny moments, mostly involving the bumbling cops, and the set design was excellent for such a low budget affair.

But I am very picky when it comes to B-movies and I found nothing that blew me away, and so while it tried to be “so bad it’s good”, to me it just came off as bad. There was a lot of unnecessary bullshit thrown in (why exactly was the brother a cross dresser?), and the editing and cinematography were amateurish at best. If b-movie style is your thing, you might happily enjoy every minute of “Chainsaw Sally”. Me? I spent most of the movie waiting for it to end.

  3. Heh, indeed Cary :)

Yeah, I thought about that right before I bought it. The actress is nice though, I couldn’t turn it down. I’m sure somebody will be jealous I have it at some point.

  4. I too purchased this and had it autographed at Horrorfind. I haven’t seen it yet I hope I like it better than you guys did.
