Not since the 1996 Sepultura album roots have brothers Max and Igor Cavalera done an album together. Since then Max went on to front Soulfly and to this point as released five albums under that banner while Igor continued to drum for Sepultura with their new singer. Fast forward to 2007 and Igor decided to leave Sepultura then rumors started to circulate that Igor was working with his brother Max on some demos for a new project. Fans awaiting a Sepultura reunion foamed at the mouth as this would perhaps the closest thing to a reunion they may ever get.

Rounding out the band are Marc Rizzo (Soulfy, former Ill Nino) on guitar and Joe Duplantier (Gojira) on bass. The music of the band merges elements of all the bands past and present projects but mostly tries and takes things into a faster more thrash oriented album. On that note, I can easily say that this is the heaviest album Max has been a part of in quite some time.

One thing that longtime fans may be interested in is the lyrics. While it may seem minimal to some, Max Cavalera has written some pretty bad lyrics in the past (not that he was ever a poet) but I would say he has shown some improvement here.

If this becomes more than a one time deal I expect some good things to come as it feels as if there is more potential here that could come out as the group had more time to gel together.

As long as you aren’t expecting an album that will compare to Sepultura’s best then you won’t be disappointed.
