RESIDENT EVIL: THE UMBRELLA CHRONICLES

REUC COVER

Official Bar Score:

Following the very successful year of Resident Evil 4, NINTENDO released the next installment in the survival horror classic for the Wii, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. A first person shooter, not at all an original for the series, but clearly no less fun, Using the Wii controller or the ever new zapper:

zapper

you are taken back to Raccoon city to face the hordes of the undead all over again. This time around, the story has a faster paced energy to it, with absolutely no critical thinking necessary, the puzzles are gone, and your are left to flex your arm muscles. Fast shooting and blowing everything in your path is the way of the warrior for this game.

There is alot of dialog throughout the game amidst all the chaos, which makes for a distracting element, it benefits the gameplay as you are forced to stay alert, you never know when a mutant worm, or a zombie dog, will jump at you. Perhaps no stage could better represent this, than resident evil 3’s stage, the subway, as you have to fight the majority of the stage in the dark.

The game’s story takes place where resident evil 0 began, to a year before the 4th, showing us the downfall of the evil company Umbrella. The stunning graphics, in the way that nintendo originated for the series is a true testament to the Wii. Most of the levels are interactive, which means you can blow up most of what you see throughout the game, even the floor, once shot with a grenade, leaves a crater. You can shoot out all the lights, for a little bump in the night with the creeps.

There are playable characters a plenty, boasting the most of any in the franchise. You play as Rebbeca Chambers, and Billy Cohen (RE0), Chris and Jill (RE1), Jill and Carlos (RE3) and of course Wesker, along with two extra characters in Hunk, and Ada.

RECHARACTERS

Haters will hate on the fact that there is no resident evil 2 (Leon, and Claire) and Code Veronica (Chris, Wesker, Steve and Claire) stages, but all in all, the game adds as an impressive standalone from the series, and makes it’s mark on the Nintendo Wii, giving fans and newcomers alike, plenty of hours of senseless violence and great visuals– with strong boss fights at the end of each stage. A must own for Resident Evil fans, and newcomers.

  1. Classic huh? That is a bold statement considering the legacy. I’ll take your word for it though. Everything on the Wii is fun, so why should this be different?

On a side note… You are a fanboy.

  2. hater

  3. it has a million dollar legacy btw

  4. ? shit, it has than a million dollar legacy. Hell, the third movie was number one at the box office for a couple of weeks.

  5. the movie and the game are seperate, my statement was just defending why i love this franchise–

by million dollar legacy i meant MULTIMILLION dollar legacy–the 4th game on the gamecube was the #1 game for that year- and it’s perhaps one of the most influential games that came from the 90’s spawning films, sequels, and raising the bar for survival horror video games– fanboy? hell yes– can’t be a fanboy if it ain’t good.
