Rock Band

Official Bar Score:

From the originators of the guitar hero series comes an all new innovation in time for the holiday season entitled “Rock Band.” Basically what the team has done is taken the model they created and taken it to the next step. Whereas Guitar Hero is simply about guitar, Rock Band is about the whole thing, from guitar to bass, to drums to vocals. If you have four people, all four can perform at the same time which is another new innovation

First off, let me say don’t let the price tag fool you it is worth the price to get the full bundle back as not doing so will just cost you more money in the long haul. Though if you are getting it for XBOX 360 the headset can be used as the microphone and if you have the Guitar Hero guitar that can be used as a bass, (not a normal guitar though) which is not included. Still though for the money it’s still a good buy as you are essentially getting four games in one.

First I’d like to talk about the controllers which are somewhat improved. The guitar for Rock Band has two sets of buttons the bigger buttons the fans of the Guitar Hero series will be used to, and a new smaller set made for kids and people with smaller hands. The drums play pretty realistic in the sense that they can take a beating, in fact they are designed to as going easy on them won’t do you any favors. Lastly the microphone is pretty basic but allows for enough customization options to fit the user better.

Though never a staple in the series the creators improved the graphics by great leaps and bounds creating a more realistic experience, and it almost seems as if you are watching a concert at times.

As you would figure the gameplay peak is reached when you have four people available to play, though the four separate single player modes are still just as fun as guitar hero.

In fact the only two things I can say bad about the game is the difficulty and the song listing. The game is relatively easy in comparison to Guitar Hero, though at the same time the addition of the drums and vocals keep things fresh and add a new challenge.

Then you have the song listing which is good, but I think is ultimately hurt by the shortage of newer songs. Still if you have a household of gamers or friends whom come over often this is the ultimate party game that should keep you busy for quite some time.

  1. Damn Monkey, you been busy on The Bar I see, I really want to play this.

  2. Yeah I wanna play this too. For my money though, right now the best song selection of any of the music games was Guitar Hero II.

  3. It’s close between II and III but II might have it because there are some kickass bonus tracks and most of the bonus tracks on III and Rock Band are garbage

  4. “The New Black”. Nuff said. II all the way.

  5. Ima have to come over and play this soon, If its any thing like guitar heros 3 I’ll love it.
