Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

Official Bar Score:

Mario returns with his first adventure on the Wii with Super Mario Galaxy a game that proves it truly was worth the wait. First let’s get to the story, which is simple enough this time around.

During a festival in which the town gathers to watch hundreds of falling stars Bowser and company attack the palace and kidnap the princess. In the process Mario is lost in a far off galaxy and must restore power to a star powered ship to chase down Bowser and save the princess. The gameplay can most be compared to the Nintendo 64’s edition of the long running series, “Super Mario 64.” I make this comparision because much like that game you collect stars in order to get to more difficult levels and the more starts you get the more levels you unlock.

The gameplay, while relatively simple does take a little getting used to mainly because of the fact that the normal laws of gravity do not apply so you can literally walk upside down and on walls at times. Though the earlier levels are easy enough for you to be able to get the hang of working with this, the camera won’t do you any favors at times though opting to give you an akward angle to make things more difficult.

Kids and adults alike should be able to both enjoy the game even though the latter parts of the game can be harder the sheer amount of galaxies should leave plenty of options if you do get stuck. At the same time this allows for much more gameplay even after you’ve beaten the game, which speaking of; there is a bit of a surprise for you when you do beat the game.

The graphics are cartoony as expected but also have been updated enough to give the worlds and characters new life. The best looking game of the series.

Super Mario Galaxy is not only the best game I’ve played on the Wii but also the best game I’ve played this year. If you have a Wii or play on getting one, than you need to have this game and remember just wait made you fall in love with Nintendo in the first place.

  1. This was great. I was having a ball just smashing the green plants into the goombas and watching them fly off into oblivion. Classic, classic, classic…

  2. Yeah I was ready to give it five beers early on but as I played more and more I came up to classic easy. Great game
