Hank Williams III-Straight To Hell (2006)

Hank III’s third and best album yet. Although its been out for a while we don’t have very much diversity on this site so I decided to do a country review. Straight to Hhell gets straight to the point, granted this album is still filled with that “my girlfriend left so I got drunk shit” it hits the harder side of life for a country artist. Tracks like “Dick in Dixie,” “Crazed Country Rebel,” and “Pills I Took” are not your average everyday country songs. There isn’t very many albums in this genre with a parental advisory sticker on the cover but this album doesn’t fuck around. Filled with drug use, foul language and debauchery this has to be the best and most true to its roots: outlaw country music. I guess it’s a family tradition.

When this album was released early this year, other than the likes of David Allen Coe, I’ve never heard a country artist who would cross the line like Hank III. I was going through a lot of personal problems and I was drinking a whole lot more than usual, trying to forget. You know drowning the ghosts. Anyway this very album reminded me what it was like to not give a fuck about money, or what others thought about me, or whatever in general. I guess I’m trying to say this album opened my eyes to a bunch of things I was too blind to see.

Hank III finally did what he sought out to do: piss off Nashville and I love it. Most country artists are afraid to say and do what they really want, afraid to push the envelope. Hank III is absolutely not. Non-Country fans might even like this album. It’s a diary of hard, hard living.

You should all go get drunk and listen to this album, it is great. I might have to upgrade this review it deserves it.

I’m lookin forward to hear this one man! I’ve been long anticipating the III/Danzig rock fusion drop too! that should be pretty bad ass!
